Novomanželia v architektúre počas svadobných portrétov v mäkkom svetle

Choose a wedding portrait location by its light

A dramatic location does not guarantee strong portraits. If we arrive at midday, spend an hour in the car or the couple feels uncomfortable there, a simple place in suitable light may be much better.

The best location gives you good light, calm and enough time without making the wedding day serve the photography.

Hard light and soft light

Harsh midday sun creates strong shadows and makes people squint. Shade beside a building, the edge of a forest or later evening light creates a softer, more natural result.

An overcast sky can be an advantage for portraits. The light is more even and gives us greater freedom over where the couple stands.

Travel has a real cost

A thirty-minute drive means about an hour away from the wedding for the return journey. Parking, walking in wedding clothes and a small buffer must be added too.

The exception is a place with personal meaning that you consciously want to include. Then the journey is not lost time but part of your story.

Two short sessions instead of one long one

A few portraits after the ceremony and ten minutes in golden-hour light often create more variety than one long session. You also spend less of the wedding away from guests.

This approach helps in uncertain weather. We can use a short dry break instead of waiting for a perfect hour without rain.

The setting should support the couple

Architecture, a field, forest or city street can all work when they fit the couple and the timeline. The goal is not to tick off a famous location but to keep the people more important than the background.

If you are unsure, send me the ceremony and reception venues. I can suggest realistic options based on the season, light and the time you want to spend on portraits.
